There are decisions to be made even here…

Do you move slowly through the morning, lingering over breakfast and losing yourself in a good novel by the pool? Or do you go for an 8:00am dive, a gallop across the sand, a lesson with the tennis pro, or a round of golf?

For lunch, will it be a grilled mahi mahi sandwich and a cold beer at Basil’s? Or a champagne-and-lobster picnic served under the coconut palms on Macaroni beach? In the afternoon, perhaps a browse through the shops at Britannia Bay, followed by a stroll on wild Pasture Bay Beach? Should you have your afternoon massage in the spa or on the terrace of your villa overlooking the view? Tonight is the island cocktail party at the Cotton House. Heels and Prada? Tomorrow, sarong and sandals for the Jump-Up and Barbecue under the stars…

Apart from the decisions, Mustique is easy. The rental villas come with their own dedicated staffs and are stocked with your favorite foods and drinks (shipped over from St. Vincent the day you arrive). Hotel guests enjoy the kind of comforts that have earned the Cotton House a 5-star rating. The island concierge arranges all activities and services. Everything is a quick drive away by “mule” (souped-up golf cart).

“For me the appeal of Mustique lies in its contradictions. It’s sophisticated yet natural, Caribbean casual yet Upper East Side elegant, endlessly social yet perfectly private.”
